Description
Our Kraken ™ hole opener tool is a dual stage hole opener capable of significantly enlarging pilot hole in a single run. The cutting structure consists of six sealed bearing roller cones with the first stage opening the pilot hole to an intermediate diameter and the second stage further enlarging this intermediate size to the final diameter. The integral stabilizer provides circumferential borehole contact while delivering the flow and cuttings from the bit to reduce the potential for balling and improve the cleaning of the cutters on the second stage. Each of the roller cone stages is offset to provide circumferential borehole contact and excellent stabilization. Potentially high wear areas, such as the stabilizer and cone saddles, are protected by premium quality tungsten carbide hard facing to maximize durability. The standard milled tooth roller cones have tungsten carbide hardfacing on the teeth and include enhanced gauge protection. A unique offset cutting structure which minimizes tracking helps to improve tooth coverage and load distribution, optimizing ROP and stability. The hydraulics have been optimized using CFD analysis, and the multi-directional nozzles have been specifically located to clear cuttings while cleaning and cooling each cone.
